Sisters in Cloth at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum


Sisters in Cloth: A Collection of Works by African American Textile Artists opens at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Colorado May 6. According to the museum's website, this exhibit "span[s] the spectrum of quilt styles, from the traditional to the contemporary, and showcase the varied works in design, inspiration, and meaning for present-day African American textile artists. Each quilt tells a story for its artist and emote messages through its fabric." The display lasts until Aug 2nd. (Quilt in postcard is Carolyn Crump's "Awakening" - Thanks Sew Chick!)

Quilting the Stories of Our Lives - Charleston, SC

"Quilting the Stories of Our Lives: African American Quilters and Fiber Artists" is on display from May 1 - June 5, 2008 at 10 Storehouse Row ( 2120 Noisette Blvd., North Charleston). 10 Storehouse Row is a a 40,000-square-foot renovated industrial warehouse, which includes eight artists studios. Warm Spirits at the African Museum of Philly


Betty Leacraft curates "Warm Spirits: Contemporary African American Quilters" at the African American Museum in Philadelphia April 4 - June 1, 2008. Sixteen quilt artists are featured. On Saturday, May 24 at 1pm, there will be a roundtable discussion of the exhibit moderated by Betty Leacraft, and panelists include Sistah Quilters Bisa Butler, Barbara Imes Jordan, Jacqueline Imes Jenkins, Lisa Shepard Stewart, Christina Johnson and Asake Denise Jones. The discussion is free with museum admissions of $8.00 ($6.00 seniors). Enjoy!
