Vlisco New Fabric Collection from the Netherlands

Ok - if you are a fabric-aholic, get ready to drool! No, really, get ready.

Yesterday I received an email from the Dutch Wax fabric manufacturer Vlisco in the Netherlands. Their new line of fabrics is available - minimum order is 6 yards per design. Yes, they do ship to the US. You've got to visit the site and see these FABULOUS dresses made from the fabrics, like the one at left. I'm jealous, there are even stores with the FASHIONS - click here! Enjoy!

I returned from the Netherlands. I was so in love with the fashions in Europe. I was surprised by all of the tribal-inspired cotton print skirts and dresses the women were wearing. They do so much with cotton and colors over there. I took phots of the fashions and debated about sharing them in my Travelog Europe series. Now that I see your post I will, in the coming weeks. I'll be be to cross post this article

Drooling. Salivating. Hyperventilating. Rolling on the floor in misery that I'm too broke to order some for my stash.

I am really surprised at the lack of consciousness displayed here in your post and the comments. I hold no admiration for Dutch producers of African print or styles of fabric. These are the people who have systematically destroyed the fabric industry in Africa through copying, and who now export their cheap imitation fabrics back to Africa. The skill of making/weaving/printing fabric in Africa is now almost extinct.
Do do some research on the topics you post before you 'laud' or do you not care?

For this last comment, I appreciate your note. I love the dress - and will continue to. The fabric is exciting - and the dress design inspiring.

Do feel free to leave links to any additional reading you'd like to share on the topic of the Dutch fabric industry. And, feel free to leave your real name vs simply signing anonymously.

Hi Kyra:
Love your site. I am a fabricholic; do you know where I can get these fabrics in Canada? Also, I am looking for pattern books for African dresses. Please help.

Catherine,

Thanks for visiting the Black Threads blog. You'll have to write to the fabric manufacturer to see if they distribute these lovely prints in Canada. As for pattern books, you might do a Google or Amazon.ca search on African dresses. Happy Holidays!
