Southern Stitches: African-American Quilts from the Collection of Larry Hackley

The exhibit "Southern Stitches: African-American Quilts from the Collection of Larry Hackley" opens October 21 at Morehead State University in Morehead, KY. The show runs until February 26, 2011 and features 16 bold and colorful quilts made by six African-American quilters from Mississippi and Alabama. Hackley is a folk art collector. The opening Thursday, Oct. 21, 5-7 p.m. will also feature a reading by poet Honorée Jeffers at 7 p.m. One of her collections is titled "The Gospel of Barbecue." Enjoy!

Kyra, You make me want to be able to quit my job and travel all over to see everything you find! Thanks for creating a window to the world of African American Creativity for those of us who are stuck at our desks way to much.( But I have to add Praise God for the job!) :o)

Thanks so much, Kyra, for posting this. I live in West virginia, approximately 50 miles from Morehead, KY. I was not aware this exhibit was going to be shown in our region. Now, thanks to you, I have plans to be sure and see it. With Willa, I say, thank you for "creating a window to the world of African American Creativity."
