Tricia Waddell - Editor-in-Chief, Stitch Magazine

Tricia Waddell, editor-in-chief of Stitch Magazine, recently announced that the bi-annual publication is moving to quarterly! Burda Style recently published an online interview with Ms. Waddell. According to the interview, she's a crafter herself:
"I love to make stuff period, so I do all sorts of crafts. I enjoy knitting, jewelry-making, mixed-media artwork, hand embroidery, and most recently I have been learning to weave. I definitely combine crafts, especially the fiber-related crafts. I love adding custom handcrafted touches like embroidery or beading to my sewing projects. And I want to add more fiber techniques into my mixed-media work."
What do you like best about Stitch? If you are not familiar with Stitch Magazine, do visit the Stitch blog! Enjoy!

Update:
Carol - thanks for sharing that the Burda link is no longer working. Sorry about that! Here's a link to a YouTube video interview with Ms. Waddell by PinkChalkTV. Enjoy!

Surface Design Mag - Summer issue just grabs you

I LOVE the cover of the Summer 2009 issue of Surface Design magazine. Doesn't it just grab you? The pieces are machine knitted by Reina Mia Brill. Inside are two articles Black Threads readers may want to read:
  1. Xenobia Bailey" Revisiting Reconstruction. Sistah Xenobia's work is unbelievable!
  2. Review of the quilt exhibition Inspiration: African-American Quilts from the Collection of Maude Wahlman. The show was held last year at the Belger arts Center in Kansas City, MO from July 11 - Oct 3, 2008.

Vivian Benton - moving on after 7 years

I just received the Fall 2007 issue of the Quilting Quarterly magazine - the journal of the National Quilting Association, Inc. And, there on page 4 is the heading ... And So Long! QQ Editor Vivian Benton (photo) announces this was her last issue as editor after seven years. Say it's not so!! I've loved that the magazine includes a diversity of quilters, is smart, well designed, and a good read. I've loved that Vivian and those who work on the Quilting Quarterly document both quilters and quilts. Vivian - thanks for the 7 years!

Horn Book Magazine - Quilt cover

I was on Roger Sutton's blog this morning. He's the editor-in-chief of Horn Book Magazine, a publication about children and young adult books. I'd love it if one day the publication would review Martha Ann's Quilt for Queen Victoria (smile). In the meantime, I am delighted to see Jaqueline Woodson's Show Way featured on the cover of the March/April issue. I'm looking forward to adding this issue to my collection of African American quilting ephemeral items .

It's not often that African American quilts or quilters are featured on the cover of quilt or other topical magazines. Do you have any note worthy magazine covers to share?
